Today is the 74th anniversary day of the Islamic Jamiat-e-Talaba, Muhammad Siddique, Somalia

Today is the 74th anniversary day of the Islamic Jamiat-e-Talaba (Islamic Students Organization), one of the largest student organizations in Pakistan, for this day I would like to share the positive things I have seen in my presence here at International Islamic University. The organization was founded by 25 students on 23-December 1947 in Lahore; they promote Islamic values through Islamic teaching, training, and other means. IJT is influenced by the works of Syed Abul-Ala Maududi, the well-known Islamic scholar, and philosopher. Here on campus, I have seen a lot of programs carrying on by Jamiat such as understanding Quran, study circle, and Mega Education Expo(MEE) which students gather and exchange Knowledge, there are a lot of activities going on, but the one I like is the Bookfair.

The Organization has a hierarchy for the task or responsibility they are doing, for example, the new member has to read specific Islamic books, make a hifz some verses/surah of Quran, and a bunch of Hadiths to become Rafeeq. Jamiat gives the students a platform to learn public speaking and organizing events, the beauty of their work is teaching students personal responsibility, and being able to contribute to the community.

I like the way they choose their chairperson, no one makes himself a candidate or campaign, they have a shoora model, where Rukun selects between them a chairman. Let me conclude the Jamiat is a wonderful organization for youth Muslims and an opportunity for the students in International Islamic University to explore and learn the Islamic values and principles of life.
